Strengthening relationships with Aboriginal people

(August 19, 2014) Premier Tom Marshall today announced several new initiatives to support building Aboriginal capacity and expertise within government: the development of a Land Claims and Self-Government Agreements Implementation Policy; the development and implementation of an Aboriginal Human Resource Strategy; and a review of Aboriginal content and delivery in provincial school curriculum. This work will be supported by the creation of a new Aboriginal Liaison position within the Labrador and Aboriginal Affairs Office.

Independent review of hydraulic fracturing

(August 11, 2014) Natural Resources minister Derrick Dalley today announced that the Provincial Government will establish a panel to undertake an independent review of hydraulic fracturing in western Newfoundland. The panel will be provided with a terms of reference to share information and receive input from the public on hydraulic fracturing. “I can assure Newfoundlanders and Labradorians that our government’s first and main considerations when exploring an economic development opportunity are the health and safety of our people and protection of the environment. These principles guide our decisions and remain our highest priorities.”

Broadband to over 5,000 more households

The Provincial Government will invest $4.6 million in this third phase of the Rural Broadband Initiative.
