Tony Cornect was first elected to the House of Assembly in the February 8, 2007 by-election and was re-elected in the October 9, 2007 and October 11, 2011 general elections. On October 30, 2007, he was appointed to serve as the Government Caucus Whip in the House of Assembly.
On October 9, 2013, he was appointed to serve as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Advanced Education and Skills.
On July 17, 2014, he was appointed Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. On July 22, 2014, he was also appointed to serve as Minister Responsible for Francophone Affairs.
Mr. Cornect is a bilingual native of Cape St. George and is passionate about his community, culture and heritage. For many years he has been an active force in the volunteer community, serving on a variety of associations and community organizations.
He has accumulated a vast amount of experience, having served as both Deputy Mayor and Mayor for the Town of Cape St. George and political assistant to the MHA for the District of St. George’s – Stephenville East.
