House of Assembly Closes Spring Session Early

Paul Davis, Leader of the Official Opposition, said, “The Ball Liberals are closing the House of Assembly for the summer after having a session that was light on legislation and after appearing to have run out of ideas.”

Davis said, “The Ball Liberals have had yet another tough sitting in the House, as they did in their two previous sittings, but this sitting was defined by even fewer answers and ‎even less accountability than prior sittings.”

“In Budget 17, the Liberals have kept many details hidden. In the House and in Estimates committee meetings, despite repeated attempts by the Opposition to get answers to basic questions about the impact on people and programs, the Liberals have provided few answers and limited detail.”

“The same is true for virtually every other matter we have raised. The Liberals have continued their blame-game approach, and provided few reasonable responses when asked fair, direct questions. We know little more now than when the spring session started about important issues that matter to people.”

“Meanwhile, the sitting was terribly damaging to the credibility of the Premier and his government, which has been embroiled in one scandal after another, from the shocking conflict of interest of the Clerk they hired as a patronage appointment to the waste of‎ millions on needless reports and consultants. They have wasted millions more by firing highly qualified public servants in the name of restraint, only to quietly backfill positions with Liberal campaign workers, relatives and friends,” said Davis.

“The ‎Ball administration, after just two years, has all the signs of a government well past its ‘best before’ date, not only running from accountability and embroiled in scandal, but lacking any plans for growing our economy, which on their watch is projected to get worse, year after year,” he said. “The Ball Liberals may want to run, but they can’t hide from the consequences of the destructive way they’re governing. People deserve better.”
