Premier Blatantly Dismisses Concerns of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians

Paul Davis, Leader of the Official Opposition, said, “On Tuesday, August 8th the Official Opposition requested an opportunity to hold government accountable for major issues that have occurred since the last sitting of the House of Assembly. It was the intention of the Liberal government to open the House of Assembly only for the purpose of electing a Speaker. Under pressure from the Official Opposition the Liberals allowed a question period but provided few answers.”

Some of the questions posed to the Liberal government included: whether a new Finance Minister will take a different approach to the provincial finances, when the public will receive an updated fiscal outlook, why the Liberals refuse to call an immediate independent audit of the Muskrat Falls project and the failing Liberal strategy used to address the deplorable road conditions in the province.

“While dodging questions and evading answers has become a hallmark of the Liberal administration, the lack of answers from yesterday’s question period can only be described as either a glaring lack of knowledge by the Liberal Ministers or a conscious effort to withhold information from the public,” said Davis.

Once proceedings in the House of Assembly concluded, the Premier arrogantly dismissed the very questions he refused to answer. The Official Opposition would remind the Premier and members of the Liberal caucus that these concerns come directly from the people of Newfoundland and Labrador. To disregard these important issues is equivalent to disregarding the concerns of the people he was elected to serve.
