CBS Library Announcement Short on Details, Timelines, Budget
Opposition Leader Paul Davis (MHA Topsail-Paradise) and Barry Petten (MHA Conception Bay South) said the Education Minister’s Wednesday morning announcement about the CBS library was embarrassingly short on details, timelines and budget information.
Davis said, “People walked away disappointed that the MInister didn’t show up with specific details to announce about the library project that the community has been pushing for.”
“For quite some time, we have been advocating for a regional library in CBS, especially after the Education Minister criticized the previous plans for the CBS library project.”
“If the Minister had been ready today to release the details people have been seeking, then everyone would have been able to understand the objective of the news conference. But to hold an announcement involving municipal officials in the middle of a municipal election campaign when there is nothing to announce is embarrassing to everyone involved.”
Petten said, “People were left scratching their heads about the purpose of the news conference, when it included none of the details, timelines and budget information that infrastructure announcements normally include.”
“Community residents want this library project to proceed and the benefits to flow. When the Minister is not prepared to provide the basic details, it makes people wonder how ready he really is to move ahead on this project,” added Petten.
