Dear Party Supporters,

The PC Party of Newfoundland and Labrador is reviewing, revising and rewriting its constitution. This will be a very comprehensive process to ensure the party’s constitution is reflective of a modern forward thinking political party. Due to a resolution passed at the last AGM, there are two very significant issues that require immediate attention. First, the process and the rules the party uses to select a leader. Second, the issue of party membership and who should be eligible to vote in a leader selection process.

As you are aware the party’s current leader , Paul Davis, will be stepping down when the party selects a new leader. Since the last leadership convention there has been much discussion about the need to review the existing delegated convention process, particularly given other political parties in NL and other parts of Canada have moved to new ways of engaging more people in their party’s leader selection process. The party’s current constitution provides very specific rules dictating that only a delegated convention process be used to select a leader. If the party wants to make any changes in how a leader is selected and who can participate in the process it will require a change in the constitution

As a part of the process of conducting a review of these two issues, leader selection process and membership, as quickly as possible the party is asking for your assistance by completing the attached feedback form by January 7th 2017. It can be returned to us via email at [email protected] or via post at P.O. Box 8551, St. John’s, NL A1B 3P2.
